Seeing as many gardens from around the world is a big item on our bucket list. Whenever we travel, we always make it a point to seek out amazing gardens. They are a wonderful source of beauty and inspiration and often have a calming and grounding effect during the exciting whirlwind of traveling. They are also the perfect way to learn a little about and take in the local culture.
Gardens never cease to amaze us and when visiting one it is always interesting to learn about their stories. Some of them are romantic, some have great history and some feature jaw dropping sculptures, mazes and art.
Here are just a few gardens from around the world that we think would be a pleasure to visit one day.
1. Montreal Botanical Garden, Quebec, Canada
Founded in 1931 this garden boasts amazing sculptures and beautiful landscapes.
2. Villa D’Este, Tivoli, Italy
This historic garden was created by Cardinal Ippolito D’Este and is filled with grottoes, sculptures and statuary. Most well known for its water features that are channeled into ponds, canals and wide variety of fountains. At certain times of the day organ music is played to enhance the beauty and calm of your stroll in the garden.
3. Kawachi Fuji Garden, Japan
A magical and dreamy garden to spend the day in no doubt. With gorgeous pathways and tunnels of wisteria to walk through we can only imagine the peace and beauty this garden would give you.
4. Monet’s Garden, Giverny, France
I was fortunate to tour Monet’s Garden this spring. Words cannot describe how enchanting and magical the gardens feel as you stroll along the paths.
One of my favorites was the water lily pond which inspired Claude Monet’s famous Water Lily painting. Historical, breathtaking and inspirational.
5. Yuyuan Garden, Shanghai, China
This serene and majestic garden was started in 1559 and is the most famous garden to come out of the Ming Dynasty. It is located next to the City God Temple in old city Shanghai and means “Garden of Contentment”.
6. Kuekenhof Gardens, Lisse, Netherlands
If you love flowers, bright colors, and sweet smelling air the Kuekenhof Gardens is a place to experience. Known as one of the largest flower gardens in the world, it features a wide variety of tulips and more.
